FKA twigs has become synonymous with the word “alternative.” But I don’t think anyone expected the UK-bred musician to literally *invent* a word and subsequently, drop (arguably) the kinkiest moments in music since “WAP.”
Following Charli XCX’s brat, alt fans were eager to fill their parasocial tendencies or shall I say, pop culture brain rot with the next best thing. Thankfully, twigs teased Eusexua just in time, delivering the hardest fetish fashion lookbook, insane raves, role play and art references that would make any historian nut.
With lyrics like “You’re not alone” and “You're a stranger, so you're perfect,” Eusexua invites us to experience shameless pleasure.
Speaking of freedom, we can’t dive into Eusexua without highlighting the last few years of twigs’ life. As she told Elle in a 2021 interview, “It’s a miracle I came out alive.” Following an abusive relationship, she bravely spoke about gaining the strength to leave. Little did we know, empowering herself to leave was just one step in a journey that would lead to a powerful album. On the Man Enough Podcast, she said:
“I’m so grateful to have learned so much about the way that abusers operate. But, I was so disappointed to learn how boring it is because they all operate the same… One of the most painful things was realizing that I wasn't special. That I wasn’t in a relationship where it was this thing that we could struggle through together — me and him against the world. It could have really been anyone. It was just bad luck." - twigs
The result? An album and movement that celebrates sexuality. A movement that could revive even the most betrayed + repressed soul. It’s Eusexua.

Fashion is all about communication, and twigs’ looks communicate sexual freedom. Truthfully, the “Perfect Stranger” video could be a fetish fashion lookbook.

Continuing references to the body as art (cue twigs’ On Running collabs), choreographer Zoi Tatopoulos cleverly incorporates sensual movements like thrusting and literal bodies-on-bodies to further the album’s message. Tatopoulos’ work is typically regarded as “extra-terrestrial,” making the perfect match for twigs’ alt-alien style.
Inflatable… latex?
Designed by 19-year-old Straytukay for Rick Owens’ AW24 collection, these inflatable latex boots elevate every siren’s latex knee high’s. Latex is synonymous with kink and a standard latex boot would’ve been.. boring. Inflatables designed by an emerging designer? Major.
